My Kendo Match Video

After months of trying, I finally was able to post my Kendo team match video on Youtube. This was during the team matches at the Midwestern Kendo Federation (MWKF) tournament in Chicago on October 28, 2006. I do lose this match and there are some glaring problems that I really want to fix by the next tournament. But contructive criticism is always appreciated. By the way, I am the one in the white tag.

Hey Chris,

First things first, hope you have a lovely Christmas holiday, and may i wish you the best of luck for the new year.

Secondly, their are definite flaws in your kendo. Here are some that i noticed, and it should give you insight into practicing in those areas mainly, compared to what ever your sensei wants you to.

1. You move too much. When the opponent is NOT attacking you, you either hop about the place, or move about sideways around the person, and hence the reason of you getting tired. Please try and remain in one spot, while maintaining focus to dodge your body when the opponent strikes.

Your also looking a bit stiff when you move about the place, this could mean that your grip is too much, or your trying to hard.

2. Since all of your main energy is being distributed into the ground, this shows to me how your speed and accuracy isnt all that good. Accuracy is above average, but your speed is a definite flaw in my eyes. Try and focus your strength into your shoulders and forearms more than your legs, let your legs glide over the floor instead of stamping the floor. This should ease up the pressure.

3. You are leaning when attacking, when you do a chodan attack, your body seems to lean forward, while sticking your ass out, this puts more energy strain, not only in the legs, and arms, but on the lower back and upper calves.

Well thats all of the main things i can see so far, and i hope you take this into account. If your sensei isnt even recognizing these things, then whats up with him?

Anyways, take care mate.
